State Leaders Forum info out to clubs in the county.
Format of the meetings to change to having written reports, with email submittals to the Secretary
SLC delegates will present at the next full Council meeting (September)
Next year's SLC is also at UCDavis
Financial Assistance committee had 4 or 5 apps for Camp.
Calendar events: Murlin combined all his events onto a master 4-H calendar.
Problem was brought up that there were many notices for camp - one each day.
Coyote Crest volunteered for snacks for September meeting. Thanks a bunch.
Website stuff: needs updating.
Website needs to contain longterm items, and Yahoo has short term stuff.
Maybe we will have training activity on how to get on the Internet.
Large Animal: Hans has gotten the Fair exhibits manager to allow us to rewrite the Fair book on how the Large animal shows. This will be on the web in January, so the schedule for rewrite is very short. Need to have the info in to the Fair by November.
Large Animals – Lessons learned at Fair: Need to stress marketing for next year. I called for data which will be used to prepare summaries. I am planning for a meeting of all Livestock sellers in April 2008 to perform training. Will hand out an Excel spreadsheet template for weekly gathering of data from all members; recorded by Project Leaders. Spreadsheets sent to me in mid-July will be used for consolidation and summary into a hand-out and displayed at ‘Auction Sellers Information’ table: “What does it currently cost to raise an animal”. It will also act as a clearance site for fractional buyers. Have a fact sheet hand-out and a display to explain the post-auction process: auction to freezer. This information could be ready by April for distribution at Club Meetings.
Have identified a new Goat Committee Chair and expect to have a new Swine Committee Chair candidate by September meeting.
Fair Report
I have talked the Exhibits Manager into accepting our help with the FairBook. As a result of knowledge gained I am planning on re-writing the animal books as procedures; other Departments can remain as catalogs. Each species section will contain all information pertinent to that species. Ownership dates will be translated into calendar dates. All events/classes/competitions/judgings are to be included. All awards will be enumerated and included. Note that this means there will be places in the Fair software to record everything – this can then result in more complete Publicity reports available from the software. Daily reports would simplify data gathering tasks of the Fair Awards committee and could be posted for the General Public. Books could also include judges instructions (or they may be separate). I am doing Large Animals, I will work with John Haggerty to re-do Small. Pat Funke has offered to do the Jr. Stills book (in fact she has already started). Will form committee(s) in September; I am currently developing formats, standards, guidelines and goals.
Evelyn McGarry has volunteered to serve as a Fair Publicity Committee chair. There may be a poster design contest. She hopes to get flyers to all clubs in February. Clubs can start process of getting flyers distributed and display in their local communities.
John Haggerty and I discussed the idea of having an Exhibitors Information Center, probably located in a vacant animal stall. Primarily for the animal members who are at the Fair daily. Although described as an Information Booth, the real reason is to provide a gathering place for youth cross-communication. Depending upon permission, we may be able to serve cool-ade and home made cookies (so as to not conflict with current food vendor contracts).
Carcass Contest Winners announced for Thursday, Aug. 16th. Sponsored by Cattlewoman’s Association. Meeting is at 7 pm. A dinner for the youth and their leaders is being provided before the meeting.
Last minute goat vet check was a problem for many of the kids.
Some details of the animal auction (weight limits that buyers pay)
Awards went great! Thanks Salene. Well organized and smooth running.
Sponsors did not get a call to allow them to be there to present.
Steve the container needs to get cleaned out.
Maybe the 22nd of September.
Deborah Lang, Program Rep:
SLC - the young people who attended came back very enthusiatic.
enrollment - packets are going out soon.
Sept 29 10-3 leader training.
Prusch Park - Texas ANR group came to visit and were met by 4-H representatives, and were duly impressed with California, Santa Clara county, San Jose, and our 4-H group.
Fair in Santa Clara: some of the supervisors are willing to sell the fairgrounds or at least kill the fair.
If worse case happens, we may need to have a Youth Fair with FFA somewhere.
October 6th is Mega Field Day at Prusch Park. New coordinator has taken over from Paul Freeman.
MSC to cover the cost of the SLF planning staff members cost. These would be Deborah Lang, Murlin (1/2), Jeanine, Gina Lee, Vicky Bosworth
Adjourned at 9:10 pm
Respectfully submitted,
